Well that depends do you have any musical talent. Also by the time you grow up will anyone still be listening to punk rock. Better to stay in school and play music as a hobby.

do whatever you want to do. its your life. if thats your passion, then make a career out of it. every musician started out with a dream. best of luck to you.

If you care what your parents say, you’ll never be a punk-star.

you need to talk to your parents about being supportive. because judging by your previous question they dont seem to care about your dreams. if you wanna do sumthigng then do it and forget wut your parents say or you’ll never be a punk star

you can be whatever you want to be. ur parents only think that because a lot of artists dont make it to the big time and they end up without job or money and barely able to make a living, so even though u want to be an artist, try to keep ur grades up and go to college just in case. its a hard world out there for musicians. and u dont want to be stuck on the streets because the company ur trying to get to sign u in decides they dont like ur style.

Concentrate on school. There are no guarentees in the music industry.

it could depends on how old u r. if u r over 18 then do what you gotta do but if not i think the best thing is to follow your parents. maybe their change their mind when they see that u r growing up.

I think it’s every person’s dream to be a rock star. I’ve been through that myself too. Do you play instruments? Do you sing? If you do keep it up and don’t let anyone discourage you. Keep doing what you love you do & you never know you might be that punk rock star.

But, It’d still be good to have a back up plan in life. Just b/c you might not be able to be the next green day doesn’t mean you can’t have another career that has to do with music in some way.

    Just hang in there. =)

Just be you and always have a “back up”. Things can happen if you make it happen, it is healthy to dream and live them but be sure you have the “insurance” plan so your not older with just the music to count on to pay the bills. Take courses in music and teaching so you can fall back on it if it does not work out.
Your parents are just wanting you to use some potential in you maybe you do not see you have yet. Most parents want thier kids to be a great success. Best of Luck!

Ok so work on music and singing. But make sure you go to school and get your education. There is no glory in being a starving artist when you could have a decent job. When you are an adult you can try to get your music career going.

Your parents are partially right… it is a stupid fantasy but it is your fantasy, so it is valid enough! Stay in school, learn what you can, but persue music as well. Do what you can with your shool band and in punk bands. Try to perform as much as possible, but get your HS and College degrees! If you are good enough and people like your music, then you will go places! Besides, some of the best music and bands that I have seen were while in college… you have to start somewhere….

And for god’s sake, don’t do drugs.

Go for your goals!!! I’m going to FL this summer for a national talent competition, and so I will be following my goal, and possibly get signed with an agency or two for acting. if your interested in the same type of program (has singing too) google Millie Lewis or AMTC, or even Rena’s International for the link.

Your parents are trying to be practical it’s not that they are trying to stiffle your dreams.

If you really want to fufill your dream learn music, learn to play an instrument, etc. Just sitting around ‘wishing’ isn’t going to make it happen.

At the same time you need to go to school and educate yourself, even ‘stars’ need these skills. It’s good to have a back up plan.

If you don’t learn what you need to pursue your dream it will always remain a fantasy and your parents are probably concerned you will waste your life dreaming.

    Several questions come to mind:
Just how old are you now?
Do you have ANY musical talent?
Any type of skills to fall back on just in case your dream doesn’t come true?

what do you mean “when you get older” ?? how old are you now?? if your only like 13-14 you cant be a rock star, but its good to have dreams!!! i wish i could have a dream like you do but back to the subject- talk with ur parents!! let them know why you want to be a punk rock star tell them it wont happen for at least 2 or 3 years and then you’ll be old enough anyway (how old are you??) any way- just explain to them your reasoning, if they’re good parents they should listen!!!

Everyone has hopes and dreams…and it’s cruel for anyone to crush them. If you’re serious, pursue music in everyway…learn it, play it, perform in local venues such as school talent shows, public parks, anywhere. If you have the true courage and willingness to do the work…you can accomplish whatever you set out to do, and don’t let anyone crush your dream!

I know we don’t believe people when they say they know how you feel, but trust me, I know how you feel. When I grow older I want to be an actress, it’s been my dream ever since I was a little girl, and people say I have the potentials and the looks to be one, but my parents don’t approve of my dream. All I can say is, when you want something you go get it, when you have a dream you go pursue it, no one can stop you, not even your parents. YOU’RE the one that’s living your life, YOU’RE the one that has the power to control your life and no one else does. It’s your life, you can make whatever you want out of it, it’s your choice. It sounds cheesy, but it’s true. Go after your dream and don’t be afraid of what other people think or say. It’s SO cheesy, but SO true.

In the meantime, you can have talks with your parents to get them to understand how important this is to you and tell them the good things about being a punk rock star, and tell them that’s it’s not fantasy, that if you tried it could come true. Show them how determined and unwavering you are, maybe they’re change their minds.

    Good luck

well that is your life your parents cannot tell you what to be in the future that is suppose to be up to you.

Do you play an instruments? Can you write lyrics?

If music is your passion, that’s great- but you can’t really expect it to support you immediately, if ever. If you do form a band- or if you’re already in one- and you want to create music primarily, you’ll have to accept that you’ll need to work a job that actually PAYS as well.

Furthermore, the fact that you “want to be just like them” is somewhat disturbing. You shouldn’t want to be just like anybody. You can be INSPIRED by someone, but you should be striving towards something all your own. If you’re going to create music, actually CREATE, don’t copy. Don’t try to emulate their musical style, because if that’s all you want, you might as well be in a cover band.

Your parents are right in thinking your dreams are somewhat unrealistic, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work towards them. Just keep in mind that you WILL have to do things besides make music in order to actually support yourself, and don’t set yourself up to be disappointed.

Keep playing. keep writing songs. try going to an open mic night to start playing shows. promote yourself, pass out flyers with a punky design. make a demo. get a myspace music page… etc…

but remember few make it to “rock star” success and there are a lot of bands that are still extremely good that have huge followings even if you dont hear them on the radio.
